Violeta Dimitrova


Violeta Dimitrova was born in Pleven, in the family of musicians. Her father – Marin Dimitrov, was conductor and one of the founders of the Pleven State Opera. She graduated from the Secondary Music School in Pleven with golden medal – specialization violoncello. Later she enrolled at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music and graduated in a special class – Choral conducting in the class of Prof. Vasil Arnaudov. In the last years of her studies, she was already working as his assistant in the Sofia Chamber Choir and the Choir of the Sofia Girls to the Youth House – Sofia. With these ensembles she had numerous participations in Bulgaria – music festivals in our country and abroad, at New Bulgarian Music, etc.

After her graduation from the National Academy of Music, she was working as conductor of the Rodina Choir, Sofia. With this choir she became laureate at the IV and the V Festival of Amateur Art Activities and winner of golden medal.

In the period 1978 – 1979, at the suggestion of the National Academy of Music and the Ministry of Culture she graduated from a 1-year specialization at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire – Opera-symphonic conducting in the class of Prof. I. Musin and A.V. Mikhaylov. After her graduation, she founded in Pleven the P. Pipkov Ladies’ Chamber Choir, with which she realized numerous concerts with the Pleven Philharmonic and at New Bulgarian Music.

Since 1981, at the invitation of the Director of the Pleven Opera – Georgi Notev she became Chorus master. She was working there till 1993. At the same time, from 1987 to 1991, she specialized in Moscow – at the Bolshoi Theatre, as assistant of the Chorus master.

During her work at the Pleven Opera, she realized her first production in the open air at the Summer Theatre – “Prince Igor” /Borodin/, at the Varna Summer Theatre – “Ernani” /Verdi/, “Turandot” /Puccini/ with stage director Prof. Plamen Kartaloff. She took part in all opera spectacles in Veliko Tarnovo – the Stage of the Ages Summer Festival at the Tsarevets Citadel – from “Ivaylo” /M. Goleminov/ and “Tsar Kaloyan” /P. Vladigerov/ to again “Tsar Kaloyan”, “Don Carlo” /Verdi/, “Prince Igor” /Borodin/, “Lakmé” /Delibes/, “Attila” /Verdi/.

Since 1993, she was invited for Chorus master at the St. Makedonski State Music Theatre. The first two premieres were “Amahl and the Night Visitors” /Menotti/ and “Die Fledermaus” /J. Strauss/. After that – “La belle Hélène” /Offenbach/, “Die Csárdásfürstin” /Kálmán/, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Der Zigeunerbaron”, “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” /Mozart/, etc. She realized numerous recordings at the Bulgarian National Radio and the first tour of the Music Theatre in Switzerland with “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”.

From 1994 to this day, she has been Chorus master of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, and her first title at the theatre was “Candide” /Bernstein/. She has realized numerous spectacles and concerts, participations at festivals in Bulgaria and in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, France, Brazil, Japan and so on.

She has worked with eminent Bulgarian and foreign conductors: R. Raichev, B. Hinchev, I. Marinov, N. Nedyalkov, Е. Tabakov, М. Nachev, B. Ivanov, V. Genchev, B. Spasov, G. Palikarov, etc., R. Chailly, R. Saccani, А. Guadagno and others. She took part at the invitation of the Northwest German Philharmonic and Minden in productions of Wagner’s operas “Der fliegende Holländer” and “Lohengrin”.

She has an enormous opera and concert repertoire – almost all of Verdi’s operas – “Don Carlo”, “Ernani”, “Un ballo in maschera”, “Rigoletto”, “Nabucco”, “Il trovatore”, “La traviata”, “Aida”.

Puccini – “Turandot”, “Tosca”, “Madama Butterfly”, “Manon Lescaut”.

Others – “Norma” /Bellini/, “Fosca”, “Il Guarany” and “Maria Tudor”/Carlos Gomes/, “Prince Igor” /Borodin/, “Ivan Susanin” /Glinka/, “Boris Godunov” /Mussorgsky/, “The Maid of Orleans” /Tchaikovsky/, “Il barbiere di Siviglia” /Rossini/, “Le nozze di Figaro” /Mozart/, “Les contes d’Hoffmann” /Offenbach/, “Kosara” and “Alcek“ /Maestro Atanasov/, “Yana’s Nine Brothers” /Pipkov/, etc.

She realized numerous concerts and recordings at the Bulgarian National Radio on CD and DVD.
