Biography

Dimitar Stoyanov Kostantsaliev

(b. 27.05.1962, Gorna Oryahovitsa) – composer, conductor, vocal teacher

Dimitar Kostantsaliev graduated from the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts, Plovdiv in 1988. He studied "Composition" under prof. Ivan Spasov and "Choral Conducting" under Assoc. Prof. Nikola Lipov. In 1994 he specialised in "Composition" at the State Academy of Music, Sofia. In 1994 he studied composition with prof. Pencho Stoyanov.

In 1983-1985 he was the accompanist of the choir "Slavic Unity" in Gona Oryahovitsa. He was a member of the "Slavic Voices" choir in 1986-1985. In 1986-1988 he directed the Ladies' Chamber Choir, Asenovgrad. In 1988-2011 he taught music at the National Cultural Learning Complex in Gorna Banya, at the Yanev School, the "St. Cyril and Methodius" Private primary school and "Doris Tenedi" Private language general education secondary school.

Since 2004 he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Composers.

In 1992 he founded the "Talasamche" Children’s Vocal and Drama Formation, which he still runs today. In 2000 he founded the vocal groups "Instinct" and "No way", and in 2016 – the Youth Chamber Choir "Ohana". Since 2011 he is also the chief artistic director of the Children's Choir "Rodna Pesen" – Pernik.

The ensembles of which he is chief artistic director, conductor and vocal pedagogue have won first prizes and Grand Prix at prestigious international competitions and festivals for choral music in Spain, Turkey, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Russia, Croatia, Moldova and Latvia.

He is author of symphonic, chamber, choral, solo, popular and children's music. He created 16 musicals and musical theatre spectacles. Music for children occupies a special place in his work. Many of his more than 500 children's songs are included in the music textbooks of the ed. "Riva", "Arts" and "Prosveta". His works (symphonic, chamber, choral, popular and children's music) are in the archives of the Bulgarian National Radio and Bulgarian National Television. He has been awarded as a composer and conductor in international and national competitions.

In 2007, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria awarded him for his high results and contribution to the development of Bulgarian culture.

The Municipality of Pernik awarded him for significant contribution and merits in 2019 in the field of culture, and in 2022 – in the field of education.

In 2022. In 2022 the Children's Entertainment Centre Pernik will award him the title of "Honorary Teacher".
