Biography

Nikolay Petrov was born in Sopot. He graduated from the Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music in 1982 with a degree in Opera singing. Until 1984, he specialized in a master class – operetta and musical. In 2008, he graduated with a master's degree in music and stage directing.

From 1982 to 2010, he was one of the leading soloists at the Stefan Makedonski State Musical Theatre, where he realized a huge number of roles in the most famous operettas and musicals. Since 2010, he has been a soloist at the Sofia Opera and Ballet.

The singer has an exceptionally rich repertoire – over 90 roles in operas, operettas and musicals: "Eugene Onegin" and "Orleanskaya Deva" by Tchaikovsky, "Zar und Zimmerman" and "Der Wildschütz" by Lortzing, "Compostella" by Camilleri, "I Claudius" by P. Hadjiev and many others. He performed the central parts in the operettas: "Die Fledermaus", "Gräfin Mariza", "La belle Hélène", "Der Zigeunerbaron", "Bulgarians of Old Times", "Die lustige Witwe", "Die Csárdásfürstin", "Die Zirkusprinzessin", "Eine Nacht in Venedig" and many others, as well as in the musicals "Hello Dolly", "My Fair Lady", "Evita", "Cats", "Jesus Christ Superstar" and others.

N. Petrov has toured throughout Europe, Russia, Canada, Australia and Japan.
