Biography

The conductor Manfred Mayrhofer, originated from Lembach in Upper Austria and studied in Vienna with the legendary Hans Swarowsky, who taught numerous international conductors of celebrated public repute.

Following engagements as a conductor in Klagenfurt, Heidelberg and Gelsenkirchen, Mayrhofer was designated as Chief Conductor of the Linzer Landestheater and Brucknerorchester Linz 1985.

From 1993 to 1996, Mayrhofer was also a permanent Guest/Associate conductor at the Volksoper in Vienna and later held the same position at the Cologne Opera from 1996 to 2000.

Further, Manfred Mayrhofer conducted at the Wuerthembergische State Theatre in Stuttgart, the Hamburg State Opera, the German Opera Berlin and Düsseldorf, the operas in Catania, Copenhagen, Oslo, Philadelphia, Seville and consistently at the Semperoper Dresden.

His repertory is exemplary. Amongst others, he conducted Wagner’s “Ring des Nibelungen” in Wiesbaden and other Wagner operas in Linz. But also the operas of Verdi, Puccini, R. Strauss, Tchaikovsky and first and foremost Mozart were successfully conducted at various theatres.

Manfred Mayrhofer is also very active in the concert sector and holds a special interest for Contemporary music, for which he has already received numerous awards. He also directed numerous projects in the field of Baroque music and toured with the Virtuosi di Praga on several occasions.

His commitment regarding the correct interpretation of the Operetta, focussing on tempi and structure, has made him renowned to orchestras, such as the Staatskapelle Dresden and to become the Music director of the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.

Manfred Mayrhofer received in Salzburg the Karl Böhm Award from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and in Linz the Bertil Östbo Award for his Outstanding Interpretation from the Symphonies of Anton Bruckner.
