The youngest hope from Raina Kabaivanska’s school will make her debut at the Sofia Opera.

On 2 December the 23-years old soprano Aleksandrina Mihaylova will appear as Liù in “Turandot” by Puccini, directed by Plamen Kartaloff, reported from the New Bulgarian University.

Aleksandrina began studying with Raina Kabaivanska in 2016, when she was at the age of 17. Then followed six master classes at the NBU and four academic years at the Vecchi-Tonelli Music Institute in Modena. Her education and stay in Italy were sponsored entirely by scholarships from the Raina Kabaivanska benefactor’s fund at the NBU. In August, Aleksandrina achieved great success by winning a place among 10 finalists at the Competition for Young Opera Singers of the La Scala Academy. The young soprano was selected among 450 applicants. Forthcoming for her are two years specialization at the world-renowned Italian opera theatre.

The singer received also her first engagement for 2022 – a concert at the Opera theatre in Seville  in February.

“Endowed with voice and talent, after a solid education with Raina Kabaivanska, in Aleksandrina  are visible the main characteristics of the singers from Kabaivanska’s school – fidelity to the written by the composer, observance of the bel canto traditions and exquisite manner of singing. I am convinced in the successful career, which expects her”, said Dr. Georgi Tekev, Managing Director of NBU, founder and manager of Raina Kabaivanska’s international master class.

Yet another artist from Kabaivanska’s class arrived from Milan, to be partner of Mihaylova on the stage of our first opera theatre. The tenor from South Korea Davide Riu will impersonate the lead male role – Prince Calàf.
