Biography
Yassen Grigorov graduated with First Class Honours in BA Photography from the University of Westminster in London in 2020.
As a documentary photographer, his work centres on identity, belonging and social issues. His most significant series, Exemplary Home, won second place in its category at the 2020 International Photography Awards and third prize at the 2021 BECA Photo Awards, and was the subject of his first solo exhibition, at KO-OP Gallery in Sofia. His work has also been featured extensively in media and shown at The Other Art Fair London.
Alongside his own practice, he built a commercial career as a freelance photographer in London, working with clients across hospitality, fashion and property, including The Ritz and Fairview New Homes.
He went on to join the British Embassy in Sofia as Communications Officer, where he leads content and creative strategy across the Embassy's digital channels. Among his projects there is the joint campaign with the Sofia Opera and Ballet for the ballet "Pride and Prejudice".
His connection to ballet goes back to his years in London, where he supported the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, through its membership programme. More recently, his own photography has turned to ballet, focusing on the craft and discipline behind the stage. From the 2026/27 season he is responsible for public relations and digital communications for the Sofia Opera Ballet.
