Biography

Roman Burdenko
Roman Burdenko was born in Barnaul in 1984. He studied at the Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatoire (class of Vladimir Prudnik) before transferring to the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory from which he graduated in 2008 (class of Vladimir Vaneyev). In 2009 he trained on the Young Opera Singers programme at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. 
Was a soloist with the Mikhailovsky Theatre and the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
He made his Mariinsky Theatre debut in 2013, appearing as Belcore in the premiere of a new production of L’elisir d’amore. Roman Burdenko joined the Mariinsky Opera Company in 2017.
Born in Barnaul, Russia, Roman Burdenko has won numerous singing competitions, including the Grand Prix of the Monte-Carlo Voice Masters (2011), First Grand Prize at the Competizione dell’Opera in Moscow (2011), Second Grand Prize at the Régine Crespin International Competition (2011), Third Prize at the Operalia in Beijing (2012), and Second Prize at the Belvedere Competition in Amsterdam (2013).
Among the roles he has performed in recent seasons are Baron Scarpia (Tosca), Jago (Otello), Tonio (Pagliacci), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Don Carlo di Vargas (La forza del destino), Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Alberich (Der Ring des Nibelungen), Giorgio Germont (La Traviata), Jack Rance (La fanciulla del West), Amonasro (Aida), Count Tomsky (The Queen of Spades), Enrico Ashton (Lucia di Lammermoor), Barnaba (La Gioconda), as well as the title roles in Rigoletto, Nabucco, and Macbeth.
During the 2025–2026 season, he notably sings the title role in Macbeth in Zurich, Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier) in Berlin, Count Tomsky (The Queen of Spades) and Jago (Otello) at the Royal Opera of Wallonia.
