Today, in the span of several music classes, the pupils from five 10th grade classes had the opportunity to meet Sofia Opera lectors who introduced them to the world of musical theatre. The guests told the captivating story of Richard Wagner’s life and work, his contribution to the art of opera and his notion of Gesamtkunstwerk.
In an accessible and interactive way, the pupils got to know the process of creating a theatre performance: from the initial idea and musical dramaturgy to scenography, costumes, directorship and the performers’ role. The meeting broadened the children’s knowledge of music, encouraged their interest in classical music and gave them a valuable “behind the curtains” look on the art of opera.
We thank director Vera Petrova, assistant-director Militsa Ristova, assistant Sava-Kalina Angelov-Zhunic and the dramaturgist Svetlana Dimitrova.
