The Sofia Opera with 66 performances during the summer season and reorganized hall for the new one

The Sofia Opera gave an account of successful summer season after the quarantine because of the Covid 19 pandemic. From 30 May to 7 September our national theatre for opera and ballet has realized 66 performances – on its main stage and on open summer stages at the festivals “Opera in the Park”, “At the Foot of the Vitosha Mountain”, “Muses of Water”, “Opera of the Peaks” in Belogradchik, “Portal of the Two Worlds” in Tsari Mali Grad. We count 14 opera spectacles, 11 musical ones, 10 ballet spectacles, 2 concerts, 6 performances for babies and 23 spectacles in the Park of the Academy of Defence. The whole summer season passed without any state subsidy for activity, but at good spectator’s interest and realization of incomes, reported the theatre’s Director Acad. Plamen Kartaloff. The new 2020/2021 season of the Sofia National Opera and Ballet will be officially opened on 9 October with a spectacle of the opera “Yana’s Nine Brothers” by Lyubomir Pipkov. The theatre prepares itself to welcome its audience in a reorganized hall according to the new conditions because of the Covid 19 pandemic. The armchairs are taken apart from the ground floor, which is turned into an orchestra box. The audience will sit on first, second and third balcony at an interval of one seat, and the empty armchairs are decorated with skilfully made bunches and pots with flowers.
