Fabian Velos and Amadi Lagha on what we can expect to see at the festival from the 9th of July till the 9th of August
“Opera at the Square”: the festival of festivals of the Sofia Opera, will once again take place in front of the patriarchal cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky”, from the 9th of July till the 9th of August. The operas “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” are part of the repertoire.
“We portray two of the clowns. There is an invitation towards the entire audience to also take part in the performance: then, we will see a merge between reality, theater and life. My role is difficult: this is a character who is ugly and hunched, ridden with inner conflicts. The choir becomes a part of the audience and takes part as the performance goes on”, singer Fabian Velos shared for “Bulgaria sutrin”.
In tenor Amadi Lagha’s words, anxiety can cause a loss of voice.
“This is going to be an exceptional experience and we’re all going to give our best. Unexpected weather changes are possible: this is one of the challenges of performing live on an open stage. My role is a double one: I start off as Canio but then I portray a clown. This is theater within theater”, Laga added for Bulgaria ON AIR.
The language of music unites the entire stage, Velos believes.
“In Bulgaria, we like the people most of all: everyone is so polite. We really felt like stars. We’re thankful to Plamen Kartaloff. We’re the ones who unite people, not divide them”, he commented.
“I remember the Bulgarian audience to be exceptional and this is still true. It’s an honor for us as artists to have an audience who takes part in the performance with us. The audience is welcome to experience the excitement together with us”, Laga appealed.
