Today, at Club “Opera”, at the Sofia Opera and Ballet, a press conference was held regarding the upcoming premiere of the opera “McBeth” by Giuseppe Verdi: one of the most dramatic and psychologically rich pieces in the world opera repertoire. Present during the meeting were Vera Petrova (production director), Alessandro D’Agostini (conductor), Maria Koleva (artist), Riolina Topalova (choreographer) and the lead singers Alessandra di Giorgio, Gabriela Georgieva, Lilia Kehayova and Radostina Nikolaeva who will portray the role of Lady McBeth; Biser Georgiev and Ventseslav Anastasov (McBeth), Rosen Nenchev (McDuff) and Ivanka Ninova (Court Lady).
Prof. Plamen Kartaloff greeted the journalists, the production team and the lead singers and wished everyone involved good luck during the first premiere of 2026. The new production’s artistic concept, its director’s take and the piece’s musical interpretation were all presented during the press conference. The creative team shared its ideas on building the world on stage where power, ambition and guilt are the big accents.
The lead singers discussed the challenges in preparing for their roles in the opera; all of them exceptionally vocally and dramatically complex, the roles require a powerful psychological presence and vocal precision. The journalists were actively interested in the production’s scale, the scenographer’s decisions and in the preparations for the performance which is expected to turn into one of the most important cultural events of the season.
The premiere of “McBeth” will take place on the 25th of February, with the next performances scheduled for the 26th, 27th and 28th of February and the 1st of March.
