Five facts about Richard Wagner
Richard Wagner created the score and libretto for all of his operas.
His first completed opera, “Die Feen”, based on Carlo Gozzi’s “The Serpent Lady” was written in 1833 when Wagner was 20 years old and was set for the first time on the 29th of June, 1888, in Munich, five years after the composer’s death.
The first opera by Wagner the composer saw performed on stage was “Das Liebesverbot” which premiered in 1836 in Magdeburg and was shown only once.
In the “Der Ring des Nibelungen” tetralogy, Wagner entirely recreated his notion of Gesamtkunstwerk which combines different artforms: music, dance, poetry, fine arts, scenography and visual effects.
There exists an international Wagnerian society organization which brings together 127 societies from 45 countries. Petar Galev is the chairman of the Bulgarian Wagnerian society. These societies actively communicate and create different events: online meetings with artists, watching and discussing recordings of different productions as well as developing a sponsorship program for young artists to take part in masterclasses.
A quarterly magazine is published in which articles on all aspects of Wagner’s art are featured, including reviews of performances and of published CD and DVD recordings.
