We are the first opera theatre in the world, which dared to open its doors, declared the Director of the Sofia Opera Plamen Kartaloff

We are the first opera theatre in the world, which dared to open its doors and perform for you. This declared the Director of the Sofia Opera Plamen Kartaloff after the end of yesterday’s spectacle "Il trovatore" on the Big stage. All available tickets for the spectacle were sold out days before the announced date, added members of the company.

In one of Verdi’s most famous operas appeared Radostina Nikolaeva as Leonora, Kostadin Andreev – Manrico, and Biser Georgiev – Ferrando. They all were wildly applauded, but longest were the ovations for the dramatic and virtuoso presentation of Gergana Rusekova as Azucena and Vladimir Stoyanov – as Count di Luna, whom the world critique already acknowledges for one of the best dramatic baritones in the world and who was awarded the title "Knight of Verdi".

"Besides in the hall of the Sofia Opera, we perform on three more stages – in the park of the Academy of Defence – for our youngest and dear spectators – the children", announced Kartaloff. At the moment we prepare our new summer stage, we have constructed practically a whole theatre at the Lake Pancharevo – for "Muses of Water", added he. "A little bit later, we shall invite you at the Cinema Centre, where we shall perform Verdi’s masterpieces and other pearls of the world opera classic", said more the maestro.

As the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency wrote, the most eminent soloists of the Sofia Opera will sing among the film sets in Boyana. Among them are Vladimir Stoyanov, Tsvetana Bandalovska, Martin Iliev, Radostina Nikolaeva, Biser Georgiev and Gergana Rusekova. The untraditional concerts will take place between 10 and 19 July in the Roman Square.

In the playbill are "Rigoletto" (10 and 12 July), "Tosca" (11 July), "Attila" (15 July), "Norma" (17 July), "Dona Carlo" (18 July) and "Carmen" (19 July). The Roman Square has the capacity to accommodate up to 500 spectators, by observing all anti-pandemic measures.

Lifeguards and patrol boat will take care about the security of the audience during the festival "Мuses of Water". Between 26 June and 2 August will be presented “Mamma Mia!” – with seven dates in June, July and August, "Das Rheingold" – on 24 and 25 July, "Carmina Burana" – 12 and 18 July, "Swan Lake" – 3, 4, 5 and 10 July, and "Zorba the Greek" – 11, 17 and 26 July.
