Jessica Pratt conducted a world tour to present her album “Delirio” she published in 2023 which contains arias and madness scenes from bel canto operas.
Jessica Pratt is acknowledged as one of the biggest masters of coloratura roles in the bel canto repertoire.
With the performance of four of the greatest madness scenes of opera heroines, world-famous Australian soprano Jessica Pratt’s concert on Sunday, the 8th of March, on the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage conducted by Daniel Oren, will surely turn out to be the season’s musical culmination.
Jessica Pratt is considered one of the leading performers today of the main roles in some of the most complex bel canto pieces: “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Donizetti, “La sonnambula” and “I Puritani” by Bellini. All these operas are set exceptionally rarely not only in Bulgaria but all around the world as virtuose singers are required to perform them. Jessica Pratt has also included a scene from “Emilia di Liverpool” by Donizetti in her concert which is unknown to the Bulgarian audience.
The concert repertoire actually follows Jessica Pratt’s album “Delirio” which was published two years ago: it contains the same pieces plus another one under the accompaniment of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Her Sofia visit is part of her worldwide tour presenting the album.
In the concerts specifically, the performances of the sometimes twenty minutes long scenes are accompanied by the overtures from the same operas.
The four madness scenes range from wild insanity to delirium and somnambulism and study different states of the upset mind.
“I wanted to create something special, something I would enjoy if I were looking for new music to listen to. I created this album with the audience in mind; the audience which seeks the bel canto: people who, like me, love this repertoire and want to hear rarely performed pieces”, the performer shared when her album hit the market.
