On the 26th and the 28th of September, the Sofia Opera and Ballet to present “Tosca” with the participation of the exceptional baritone Claudio Sgura.
Born in Puglia, Italy, he began his singing education in Lecce, under the soprano Maria Mazzotta. Back in 2006, he won the prestigious “Verdi’s Voices” contest in Busseto and a year later, he debuted at La Scala as Sharpless in “Madama Butterfly”.
Since then, Sgura has often visited the leading opera stages of the world: Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna Staatsoper as well as theaters in Paris, Sidney, Tokyo and Munich.
Sgura shines with significant roles in performances by Verdi, Puccini and Verism composers including Scarpia, Renato and Simon Bocanegra.
This autumn, the Bulgarian audience will see him perform as Scarpia in the Sofia Opera’s “Tosca”: one of his most captivating roles.
