The “The Sound of Music” musical returns to the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage. The production is helmed by an international team.

In the role of Maria, we will see Vesela Delcheva: Sofia Opera and Ballet lead singer.

This is a performance of love, family, respect and upbringing.

“The Sound of Music” is yet another dream come true for the entire Sofia Opera and Ballet team. For us, it’s a huge honor and privilege to work with West Hyler because he really engulfed us in this world musical classic. I really want more people to see this show because it delves into many important subjects such as virtues, love, family, respect, the faith in God and upbringing, Delcheva said in the studio of “Bulgaria sutrin”.

West Hyler: the performance’s director, revealed for Bulgaria ON AIR that building the stage was a challenge.

“There are décor changes in various places where the story unfolds. I don’t want this show to look like an old musical. We had the idea for a revolving stage”, he added.

Delcheva’s role is close to her heart

Vesela Delcheva admitted she has grown to love this musical.

“The role I play is exceptionally close to my heart. West managed to find the right approach to me and unlocked all the doors which are important to me as an artist. Maria is a girl who is really religious; by winding up in this house, raising these children, she falls in love with captain Trapp in the most pure and honest way. However, she begins to second guess herself on whether she should fall in love in him as he is engaged”, the lead singer shared.

West and Delcheva have known each other for eight years.

“In the performance’s finale, the nazis are approaching and Maria figures out a plan to save the entire family. Captain Georg von Trapp is a very strong man so it’s a very big and important moment for her to come up with this plan and for him to say he can’t go on”, the director added.
