The hit musical “Mamma Mia!” will celebrate its 60th performance on the stage of the festival “Portal of the Two worlds” at the Tsari Mali Grad Fortress

After the unprecedented success on the Sofia stage, at the festival “Opera of the Peaks” in Belogradchik, in Albena, Varna, Plovdiv, at the festival “Muses of Water” in Pancharevo, the musical “Mamma Mia!”, written to the music of the Swedish pop group АВВА expects its visitors on 5, 6 and 7 September at the festival “Portal of the Two Worlds” at the Tsari Mali Grad Fortress.

On 6 September “Маmmа Mia!” will celebrate its 60th performance. The interest in Benny Andersson’s and Björn Ulvaeus’s work doesn’t fade away.

On the above-mentioned dates will come to life again the authentic atmosphere of a small Greek island, where hectically is running the preparation for one of the most important events in the life of the young Sophie, and namely her wedding day. This day to be still more special, however, she wants to be led to the altar by her father, whom she doesn’t know. His personality is strictly kept in secret by her mother Donna. Sophie is resolved to try all means to learn the truth and invites to the island three men from her mother’s past. Who from the characters – Sam, Bill or Harry – is the father of Sophie? The denouement is upcoming.

Unforgettable emotions in the audience, created by the incredible acting and АВВА’s eternal music, promises the stage director – Academician Plamen Kartaloff and his team. Kartaloff, according to the music critics, has an untraditional director’s look at the work. The stage director shares: “All songs of АВВА I turn into theatre of situations and scenes, in which the audience won’t stay like at a pop concert, but will take part in the action. It is running very dynamically with reflections, which will incite the spectators to think and witness with empathy the story of the characters.

Kartaloff points out that for him it is a challenge to present on Bulgarian stage one of the hit titles from the repertoire of the world musical theatres, watched so far by millions of spectators around the world. The main coproducer Yuri Franko asserts the following about the production: “The spectacle of the Sofia Opera is a quite different version from the known dozens and hundreds of productions, which can easily be found in the net. It is not an answer of the one in London or Broadway and it makes it different.”
