The dramatic love between Tatyana and Onegin on 18 February at the Sofia Opera

The story of the unhappy love between Tatyana and Eugene Onegin will come to life on 18 February, at 19 h, on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet with the spectacle “Eugene Onegin”. Tchaikovsky’s and Pushkin’s masterpiece was welcomed by the audience and the music critique with greatest admiration. Because of the strong interest in Russian classic, the spectacle is again on the theatre’s playbill. This is a unique work of art, born out of the meeting between two geniuses. The production is the work of the well-known stage director Vera Petrova. Conductor will be Andrey Galanov, reported from the Opera.

In the role of Eugene Onegin the audience will see Atanas Mladenov. In the role of Tatyana will appear Diana Guglina, and in the role of Olga will be the mezzo-soprano Violeta Radomirska.

Diana Guglina is winner of the Maria Callas Tribute Prize NY 2019 and of the First Prize of the Italian Città di Alcamo International Competition for Opera Singers 2018. She was born in Sofia, in the family of musicians. She grew up in Egypt, studied violin, ballet and piano at the Cairo Opera Theatre, where were working her parents. She continued her education in Switzerland. On the opera stages in France, England, Belgium and Switzerland, Diana Guglina appeared in “Carmen” by Bizet, “Hänsel und Gretel” by Humperdinck, “Die Csárdásfürstin” by Kálmán, “Naïs” by Rameau and many others. She has worked with conductors like Christophe Rousset, Daniel Kavka, Christopher Warren‑Green, “Elektra” by Richard Strauss, etc.

Maestro Andrey Galanov will conduct “Eugene Onegin” on 18 February. Then he will be on the conductor’s stand for the opera “Eugene Onegin” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and libretto by Konstantin Shilovsky. Galanov is a well-known conductor with international recognition for his work with leading orchestras in his native Belarus, Russia and around the world. To this date, his opera repertoire comprises all main operas and many Russian composers.

The Maestro is an active guest-conductor with many touring orchestras of Europe and Asia. In the last ten years, Galanov was invited to conduct at numerous festivals in France – “Fêtes Musicales De Savoie”, “Guil Durance” and at the prestigious “Festival Du Chateau” in Chambery, as well as at the “Grandi Dirrettori al Marrucino” in Italy. Maestro Galanov conducted the world premiere of “Requiem pour Tchernobyl” by Bruno Letort.

The highlights in his biography include two new opera productions = “Carmen” by Georges Bizet and “The Queen of Spades” by the Russian composer Piotr Tchaikovsky at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus, as well as an orchestral direction of Tchaikovsky Fifth Symphony in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
