Present was acad. Plamen Kartaloff, director of the Sofia Opera; Marta Petkova, artistic director of the Sofia Opera ballet; the internationally acknowledged conductor Daniel Oren who will conduct the two performances of “Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini on the 26th and 28th of September when the new season will be opened; Maria Jose Siri (Floria Tosca) and Stefan Pop (Mario Cavaradossi) who will take part in both performances.
Acad. Kartaloff shared in front of the press about the Sofia Opera’s great success during the recent tour in Zagreb, Croatia, with the opera “Die Walküre” by Richard Wagner and stated that some of the most renowned international singers and conductors will take part in this season along with the Bulgarian lead singers.
Viewers will find a huge and diverse repertoire at the Sofia Opera this season: operas, ballets, musicals and children’s performances. The first premiere will take place on the 11th of October: “Cavalleria Rusticana” by Pietro Mascagni and “Pagliacci” by Ruggiero Leoncavallo with conductor Francesco Rosa and under Plamen Kartaloff’s directorship; on the 25th of February, the curtain will be raised for “McBeth” by Giuseppe Verdi and on the 21st of March, the ballet “Pride and Prejudice” by Leo Muic will be performed for the first time in Bulgaria.
Also for the first time in Bulgaria, the children’s opera “The Red Giant” by Kazuhiko Matsui will be performed, inspired by Hirosuke Hamada’s fairytale.
Daniel Oren will return in November to conduct two performances of “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi with the participation of Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Stefan Pop on the 7th and 9th of November as well Asmik Grigoryan’s gala concert on the 14th of November.
