“Throughout the years, the Sofia Opera has become a Wagner performance center in Southeastern Europe. Fans, experts and competent critics claim we’re on the level of Bayreuth (the German city where a Wagner music only festival is held)”
This is what conductor Velizar Genchev stated at the Darik Radio studio: he will conduct the opera “Tannhäuser” at the Sofia Opera. The premiere performances will take place on the 28th and 30th of November.
Conductor Genchev shared that “Tannhäuser” is a melodic love story which reminds of Verdi’s operas, with the inclusion of arias and duets.
“The opera is easier to understand and the plot is quite interesting: it’s based on historical events. The audience doesn’t need any beforehand knowledge, unlike in “Der Ring des Nibelungen” where you can’t just go see the cycle, like you’re going to the movies or to a football game”
