Thomas Hall, the American baritone, will again take part in the Sofia Opera’s Wagner festival. This time, he will portray the role of Wotan in the first two operas of the “Der Ring des Nibelungen” tetralogy: “Das Rheingold” and “Die Walküre”, on the 28th and 29th of June.

Thomas grew up in a family of musicians: his mother is a singer and plays the piano, his father also sings. As a child, however, Thomas chose neither the piano, nor singing but the French horn, instead, and it became his companion for a long time. Along with playing the French horn, Thomas did business and banking. He took singing lessons for fun for a while until he decided he actually wanted to become an opera singer, at twenty-seven years old.
Throughout the years, Thomas Hall turned into a world-famous baritone. He debuted in Europe at the big opera festival in Savonlinna, Finland, in “Lohengrin” by Richard Wagner. A series of signature roles followed such as Baron Scarpia in “Tosca” by Puccini, Amonasro in “Aida”, count Di Luna in “Troubadour”, Marquis Posa in “Don Carlos” by Verdi, Wotan in “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, Johanan in “Salome” by Richard Strauss.
After touring at the Royal opera in Oslo, the Royal opera in Copenhagen, Bologna, Sidney, Wiesbaden, Palermo, Torino, Hongkong and a series of other prestigious theaters, Thomas Hall was invited to the Metropolitan Opera in New York last season, to perform the role of Friedrich von Telramund in “Lohengrin” by Wagner, under the conductorship of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
