THE DIRECTOR VERA PETROVA: “LET’S FILL OURSELVES WITH ROSSINI’S CRAZINESS”

Sofia Opera and Ballet before the premiere of the opera “La Cenerentola” – 20 March

Sofia Opera and Ballet is before the premiere of the opera “La Cenerentola” by Rossini. The operatic drama giocoso was not played for more than 30 years on the stage of our first theatre. The premiere spectacles will be on 20, 21 and 22 March at 19 h.

Exactly on his 24th birthday, on 29 February 1816, Gioachino Rossini signed a contract about the composing of a new opera. A year later this work – “La Cenerentola” – reached to its premiere in Rome. As it was with the barber from the opera, the success among the audience didn’t happen at once but it came later. In return, from there on it enjoyed a constant success. And until this day this opera buffo built-up after the famous fairy tale about Cinderella wins the hearts with its perfect harmony of musical genre painting, with the characteristics of the characters, with its perfect cantilenas, with the riches of its melodies, with the impressive ensemble and buffo situations.

Director of the production in Sofia is Vera Petrova, and conductor is Grigor Palikarov.

According to Vera Petrova, the spectacle is decided in a doll-like style and in action is fantasy. At some places even parody sounding is reached. The director is sure that she and the singers are filled with Rossini’s “craziness” and they are overcoming the extreme situations by means of fantasy and the possibilities which comedy offers. “While I am working, points out Petrova, I don’t think about the message which the artists with their play direct to the spectators. However, it establishes itself by its own: “Let’s set out on a journey, in which we could find ourselves on earth! One must be able to stand courageously in front of the others and say what are saying our characters from “La Cenerentola” – That’s me!”
