Violeta Radomirska and Atanas Mladenov revealed details on the production
The epic production of “Don Carlo” will once again take you into the world of great music, powerful passion and unforgettable characters on the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage.
“Having the opportunity to star in such a classic production is a source of pride and joy: it premiered in 1988 and has been performed for forty years now but it’s still incredibly relevant. All of our greatest singers have taken part in it”, opera singer Violeta Radomirska said at the “Bulgaria sutrin” studio.
The singer Atanas Mladenov defines the opera as “magical”.
“The opera reaches very deep into a person’s spirituality because it tells an impossible story. Verdi’s score is so deeply captivating. It’s a thrill to star in a production with such a big history which is still being performed four decades later”, he added for Bulgaria ON AIR.
Radomirska takes on the role of Princess Eboli: a woman who was quite ahead of her time.
“She was a master fencer, a lover of most influential men and orchestrated both the royal court and politics. After a fencing accident, she lost one of her eyes but this didn’t make her any less attractive. It’s beautiful getting to perform as someone you’re not”, she underlined.
Mladenov will perform as Rodrigo.
“Out of all the characters in this performance, he’s the only non-existent one: a collective image of the strive towards new times of freedom. The story in “Don Carlo” unfolds in very frightening times; however, Rodrigo’s character is outside of time”, he admitted.
The production of “Don Carlo” will be performed on the 5th of April on the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage.
