The master class is a part of the jubilee celebrations of the opera prima

From 10 to 28 September 2014 the New Bulgarian University will organize the XIV International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska. The deadline for application of the candidates is 5 September. The audition of the candidates will be on 10 September, and on 28 September the best participants will present a gala concert with the orchestra of Sofia Opera and Ballet and with the special participation of Raina Kabaivanska. This year the performers from the master class will present one more concert with the orchestra of Sofia Opera and Ballet – on 29 September on the stage of Plovdiv Roman Theatre in the frames of the V International Festival “Balabanov’s House Music Days”. The XIV International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska at the New Bulgarian University is a part of the events dedicated to the jubilee of the great opera diva. Raina Kabaivanska’s Jubilee year is under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mr. Rosen Plevneliev.

For participation in the master class can apply performers up to the age of 32, with musical education. Special scholarships for education in opera singing in Italy by Raina Kabaivanska will have the chance to receive the best Bulgarian performers from the master class of Raina Kabaivanska. Four of the partners of the “Raina Kabaivanska” Fund of the New Bulgarian University – the America for Bulgaria Foundation, Fantastico, DSK Bank and Sofia Municipality have expressed their wish the sponsorship funds with which they take part in the cause of the great opera prima to be used for awarding of scholarships to performers from Bulgaria. The scholarships for education from the “Raina Kabaivanska” Fund are distributed in the following categories:

Five scholarships for education by Raina Kabaivanska at the Music Academy “Vecchi Tonelli”, Modena for one year – EUR 12.000

Five scholarships for education by Raina Kabaivanska at the Chigiana Academy, Siena for one month – EUR 2.500

Besides scholarships for education in Italy, the “Raina Kabaivanska” Fund of the New Bulgarian University will award also scholarships for education in Bulgaria.

The XIV International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska is a part of the events included in the program “Sofia – candidate for European Capital of Culture”. This year for the first time will be awarded a scholarship from Sofia Municipality. It is envisaged the initiative in support of the young Bulgarian opera performers to continue in the next years. A Bulgarian performer will be also the winner of the special scholarship, which DSK Bank founds as a sign of support of the activity of Raina Kabaivanska and her contribution for the contemporary operatic art. Scholarships for Bulgarian, as well as for foreign performers in the master class will be granted also by the Fantastico supermarket chain, known with its attitude to Bulgarian art. Entirely for Bulgarian performers are intended also the scholarships, which grants already for a sixth year the America for Bulgaria Foundation. Thanks to the support which the master class receives from the America for Bulgaria Foundation and Fantastico were realized also the opera spectacles “La Bohème” by Puccini and “Werther” by Massenet, with the special participation of students from Kabaivanska’s school.

During the years, working in her master classes at the Chigiana Academy in Siena, Italy, at the Music Academy “Vecchi Tonelli” in Modena, Italy and at the New Bulgarian University, Raina Kabaivanska has prepared for the opera stages some of the greatest new opera performers, the presence of whom was noticed all over the world.

The culmination of the celebrations of Raina Kabaivanska will be the Jubilee charity gala concert “Raina Kabaivanska presents the stars of the opera” – on 18 December 2014, in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture, at which the Bulgarian audience will have the chance to listen to the greatest performers from Raina Kabaivanska’s school, who are already part of the world stages, together with the opera prima. The concert is with the participation of the orchestra of Sofia Opera and Ballet under the baton of maestro Nayden Todorov.
