On the 24th and 25th of April, “The Magic Flute” by Mozart again on the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage ✨

For 235 years now, “The Magic Flute” has excited viewers and has led them through the trials of life. With this performance the Sofia Opera celebrates the 270th anniversary of the genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birth as well as the 95th anniversary of the Bulgarian premiere of the opera which took place on the 1st of May 1931, on the Sofia Opera stage.

“Our journey began one night…”, director Vera Petrova shares, inspired by a line by Pirandello: “Does not your job on stage consist of giving life to made up things?” And so, Vera takes us into a fantasy world where theater is recreated inside theater.

“Our protagonists reveal their different faces while performing their roles… in the end, all participants realize that both life and Mozart’s piece are “a magnificent farce” as count Zinzendorf, Mozart’s contemporary, states. Wandering amid all these symbols, secrets and hidden knowledge, we mustn’t forget we’ve never been alone in this journey, that we always must give a helping hand to those accompanying us. The invisible threads of life connect everyone and everything: viewers, artists, interpreters, libretto writers, composers: there, where Time and Space don’t exist; in our temple, the theater of life.”

Director Vera Petrova and conductor Svetoslav Borisov once again set off on an adventure which the Sofia Opera’s wonderful soloists, orchestra, choir and ballet will join.

Choir conductor: Violeta Dimitrova. Wonderful decors by Molle O’Catton; costumes by Marta Mironska.

Starring: Angel Hristov and Biser Georgiev as Zarastro, Emil Pavlov and Hrisimir Damyanov as prince Tamino, Stefani Krasteva-Pavlova and Eleonora Dzhodzhoska-Mladenova as Pamina, Lucie Kankova as the Queen of the Night, Atanas Mladenov as Papageno, Stanislava Momekova as Papagena, Krasimir Dinev and Plamen Dimov-Grandzhan as Monostatos, Maria Pavlova, Nataliya Stoyanova and Alexandrina Stoyanova-Andreeva as the Three Ladies, Leda Ignatovic, Maria Tsotsomanski, Anastasiya Haltakova, Maria Doncheva, Ruzha Lalovska and Magdalena Popova as the three girls.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart conducted the world premiere of “The Magic Flute” which took place on 30.09.1791 in Vienna: just two months before he passed away on 5.12.1791.

The Queen of the Night’s aria performed by Edda Moser is №14 in the 90 minutes long selection of music on the Golden Record which has been travelling among the stars onboard “Voyager” since 1977.
