Students of RAINA KABAIVANSKA in “Don Pasquale” on the stage of the Sofia Opera

The talented SEONKYONG /EVA/ JEONG – soprano and JEONGHYEOK /CARLO/ SEO – baritone will incarnate themselves in the roles of Norina and Dr Malatesta at the premiere of the Sofia Opera of “Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti. After the impressive presentation of the young singers from Korea at the Gala concert of Raina Kabaivanska’s master class, they were specially invited on the stage of the National Opera.

The title role is entrusted to Nikolay Petrov and Stefan Dimitrov. Please expect also Dobromir Momekov and Ilia Iliev as Dr Malatesta, Georgi Sultanov and Hrisimir Damyanov as Ernesto, Diana Vasileva as Norina and Aleksandar Georgiev – a Notary.

“Don Pasquale” is among the highest models of the buffo genre from the 19th century. The likeable and silly Don Pasquale falls into the trap of the concocted by Dr Malatesta game, in which the charming cunning young woman Norina lured him into a marriage snare. In the comedy plot, full of misunderstandings and turns, the old simpleton at the end gives up the too hard matrimonial noose and on his own blesses the love between Norina and his nephew Ernesto.

The opera is a masterpiece of the Bel canto art. Donizetti’s remarkable talent created lively musical patterns, together with the beautiful melodies and the big and complex ensemble scenes.
