RAINA KABAIVANSKA MARKS HER JUBILEE WITH SOFIA OPERA AND BALLET

International Master Class in September and a gala concert of the opera prima in December

On 15 December 2014 the great opera actress Raina Kabaivanska will celebrate her 80th Anniversary. A sequence of events in her honour which will continue during the whole year will be organized by the New Bulgarian University. Periodically, in different spectacles of Sofia Opera and Ballet will take part singers from Kabaivanska’s School. In the role of princess Eboli in the opera “Don Carlo” by G. Verdi the Bulgarian audience has already seen the mezzo-soprano Cinzia Chiarini – participant at the XIII International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska at the New Bulgarian University.

In September, at Sofia Opera and Ballet will take place the XIV International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska which will finish with a gala concert on 28 September 2014.

On 29 September, on the stage of the Plovdiv Roman Theatre, Raina Kabaivanska will present her master class with a concert in the frames of the V International Festival “Days of Music at Balaban’s House” 2014.

On 30 September, will be opened a large exhibition depicting the world career of Raina Kabaivanska. The photographs and costumes of Raina Kabaivanska are placed at her disposal by the big opera theatres from all over the world.

In December, will be presented the biographical book-album “Raina Kabaivanska – the Devine” and a new audio CD with unknown performances of the opera prima.

The culmination of the celebrations will be the Jubilee charity gala concert “Raina Kabaivanska presents the stars of the opera”. The concert will take place right after the anniversary of the opera diva, on 18 December 2014 at 19 h, in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture, in an epoch-making combination with the orchestra of Sofia Opera and Ballet, under the baton of maestro Nayden Todorov.

In the Jubilee charity gala concert the Bulgarian audience will have the unique pleasure to listen to the most famous students of Raina Kabaivanska and her scholarship students during the years – today, performers at the most prestigious opera theatres, presented personally by the great opera diva.

The school of Raina Kabaivanska has singled out performers from all over the world, who appear today with recognized success at prestigious opera theatres, festivals and competitions in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, the USA, Bulgaria and others. Among their achievements are their permanent engagements at La Scala di Milano, the Macerata Festival, Teatro la Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Comunale di Modena, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Arena di Verona, Sofia Opera and Ballet, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Chicago Opera Theater, as well as the first places at the Luciano Pavarotti Competition and the Viotti Competition in Italy and at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium.

Organizer of the gala concert “Raina Kabaivanska presents the stars of the opera” is the New Bulgarian University, together with Sofia Opera and Ballet and the National Palace of Culture, with the special support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation, Fantastico, Sofia Municipality, Alpha Bank – friends of many years of the master classes of Raina Kabaivanska. Raina Kabaivanska’s Jubilee year is under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mr. Rosen Plevneliev.

The concert with which will be celebrated Raina Kabaivanska’s Anniversary will introduce us in the golden age of the art of the opera not only for a moment, but it will also grant the audience what she will desire the most after the dropping of the curtain – to become a part of the success of Kabaivanska’s School. The funds from each purchased ticket will support the next generation of young opera singers and the cause of Raina Kabaivanska to bestow her experience and talent.
