Don’t miss one of the most popular and unforgettable comic operas "Don Pasquale" by Gaetano Donizetti, which will be presented on 12 April, Tuesday at 19:00 h at the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
Donizetti's exquisite music and the plot brilliantly recreate a well-known and eternal life problem – the love and the vicissitudes it goes through, especially when it comes to wealth and heirs.
The opera "Don Pasquale" was first performed on 4 January 1843 in Paris and it has enjoyed great audience interest ever since. Its first production in Bulgaria was in 1932 at the Sofia Opera. "Don Pasquale" is defined by music critics as one of Donizetti's most valuable comic operas. A work, the music of which the composer created in just 8 days and through which he makes the audience empathize with the emotions that have captured the soul of the old bachelor Don Pasquale, who wants to make his life better by marrying a young woman. But will his expectations be met?
In "Don Pasquale" we will hear the famous bass Nikolay Petrov in the role of Don Pasquale and the well-known coloratura soprano Diana Vassileva as Norina. Ventseslav Anastasov will make his debut as Dr. Malatesta. He is remembered by the audience in productions such as "Rigoletto", "Tosca", "Don Carlos", "Aida", "Il Trovatore", "Otello", "La Forza del Destino", "Un Ballo in Maschera", "Chatterers"," Carmina Burana", "Cavalleria Rusticana", "Gianni Schicchi". Among his top artistic appearances is the partnership with his brother Orlin Anastasov in performance of Rodrigo and King Filippo II at the premiere of the opera "Don Carlo" in Palau de las Arts in Valencia with conductor Maestro Lorin Maazel. He also participated in "Iphigénie in Tauride", where he sang with the great Placido Domingo.
The role of Ernesto was entrusted to the tenor Reinaldo Droz.
Director of the spectacle is Svetozar Donev. Conductor – Zhorzh Dimitrov. The set and costume design are by Nela Stoyanova. Chorus master is Violeta Dimitrova. Concertmaster is Lyudmil Nenchev.
