Shungo Moriama

Biography

Shungo Moriyama studied as a clarinetist in Osaka Collage of Music. In 1971 he continued his studies in Europe under Ulderico Paone at Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and under Rudolph Jettel in Mozarteum Salzburg. 


His conducting career began in 1977; he was invited to Bulgaria where he conducts the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Bulgarian Chamber Orchestra. Since 1996 he is a permanent guest conductor at Sofia Philharmonic. He also cooperates with Royal New Zealand Ballet as well as with Mussorgsky Theater in Saint Petersburg. Many ballet masters regard Moriyama as a brilliant ballet conductor who is able to establish a good contact with dancers.

He participated in a concert during the 20-th anniversary of the Pan-European Picnic where he symbolically conducted the Beethoven Ninth with a piece of barded wire instead of a usual baton.

Recently he is frequently invited to Ukraine where he participates with Kyiv and Lviv philharmonic orchestras.
