Biography

Conductor

Georg Fritzsch was born in Meißen and educated at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden. The artist served as solo-cellist of the Philharmonic Orchestra Gera, whilst he completed his studies

as conductor in Dresden and Leipzig.

He became chief conductor of the Phiharmonic Orchestra Südwestfalen and the Tiroler Symphonie Orchester Innsbruck. The opera house Hagen offered him an engagement as principal conductor, a position he had until 2002/2003. In 2003 appointment as General Music Director of the Kiel Opera House. He finished his contract

at the end of the season 2018/2019. Appointment as General Music Director of the Badische Staatskapelle and the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe starting with the season 2020/2021.

With an extensive symphonic and operatic repertoire that ranges from Bach to contemporary music, Georg Fritzsch led numerous prestigious orchestras including the Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresden Philharmonic, Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester-Berlin, Gürzenich Orchester Köln and abroad the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Radio-Symphony Orchester Basel, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland among others. He has conducted at opera houses such as at the State Operas Dresden and Hannover, the Aalto Theater Essen and

the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He also maintains a close relationship with the Stuttgart State Opera (Der Frei-schütz and works by Wagner and Strauss). One of his up-coming engagements includes the musical director

of the Ring Cycle staged by Dieter Dorn at the Gran Théâtre de Genève (2018/2019 season), Cosi fan tutte

(2019/2020) and Die Entführung aus dem Serail (2021/2022) at the Dresden State Opera with re-invitation

for Le nozze di Figaro and Die Fledermaus (2022/2023). Theater und Philharmonie Essen, Tannhäuser (2022/

2023).

Georg Fritzsch is noted for his large repertoire and is an excellent interpreter of the works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Strauss and Wagner, leading also several world permieres (works by Matthus, Cristóbal Halffter, Kunad).

Recordings for the CPO, Orfeo (Wagner CD with Michael Volle) and the RCA Victor Red Seal labels.

Georg Fritzsch teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
