Biography

In 2008, completed his singing education at Hacettepe University State Conservatory. He has participated to the Master Classes and several concerts a lot of times at “Mozarteum International Summer Academy of Salzburg”

 

He won the third prize in National Young Voices Singing Contest in Ankara in 2006. In April 2007, he won the third prize in the 9th “Siemens” National Singing Competition in Istanbul, Turkey, and in November of 2007, he was one of the finalists in “Marie Kraja” Singing Competition in Tirana, Albania.  He won the second prize in Young Singers Competition in Izmir, Turkey which was organized by İzmir State Opera and Ballet on April 2008. He was the finalist in 7th International “Leyla Gencer” Singing Competition in Istanbul, September 2012.

 

Akgün joined the ensemble of Istanbul Opera House Turkey in September 2007 and he has performed in different Opera Houses the roles of: Rigoletto, Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, Ford in Falstaff  by Verdi; Scarpia in Tosca, Marcello in La bohème by Puccini; Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Dottore Malatesta in  Don Pasquale, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore by Donizetti; Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen; Figaro in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Don Giovanni, Il Conte in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart; Valentin in Gounod’s Faust.

 

He has also rich repertory of chamber music and oratorio. He performed a lot of times Vincenzo Bellini’s “Arie da Camera”, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Kindertotenlieder, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bacalov’s Misa Tango, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven 9th Symphony with very important orchestras.

 

Caner Akgün was elected as the Most Successful Opera Singer of Young Generation in the 2010-2011 season. Akgün continues to be a jury member of important opera competitions such as “Ottavio Ziino”, “Tullio Serafin”, “French Riviera Masters” and “Siemens”, Türkiye.

He is also a member of the Ensemble of Istanbul State Opera and Ballet as a Soloist and Artistic Director.
