Biography

Filipino-American tenor Arthur Espiritu has been active as an Operatic Tenor  since his professional solo debut in 2007. Mr. Espiritu has an Artist Diploma from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music under the Studio of the late Vocal Pedagog Richard Miller, a Master of Music and Bachelor of Arts degrees from The University of New Orleans under the studio of Dr. Raquel Cortina.  His current voice teachers and coaches are Dr. Robert C. White Jr. in New York, Doctor Raquel Cortina in New Orleans, and Nelly Miricioiu in London.

His latest roles include: Romeo in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette (Theater Magdeburg & Varna State Opera), Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme (Sydney Opera House-Opera Australia, Theater Magdeburg, New Israeli Opera, Klaipeda Lithuania), Roberto, Earl of Leicester in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda (Theater Gaertnerplatz, Irish National Opera), Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata (Cultural Center of the Philippines, Staatstheater Hannover, Theater Basel), The Title role in Gounod’s Faust (Theater St. Gallen, Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater), and Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (Daegu Opera Festival, Oper Leipzig, Cultural Center of the Philippines).  Past roles include Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Opera Memphis, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera North Summer Festival in New Hampshire, US, Theater Gaertnerplatz in Munich), The Shepherd in Szymanowski’s Polish Opera King Roger (Opera Australia in Melbourne), Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto (Theater St. Gallen, St. Margarethen Summer Opera Festival in Austria), Fernando in Donizetti’s la Favorita (Theater St. Gallen), Conte Almaviva in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia (Opera North Summer Opera Festival in New Hampshire, Charlottesville Opera, Cultural Center of the Philippines), Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte (Teatro all Scala, Teatro Piccolo di Milano, Theater Basel, Theater St. Gallen), Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Opera Fuoco in Paris, former Connecticut Opera), Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (New Israeli Opera), Elvino in Bellini’s La Sonnambula (Theater St. Gallen, Theater Gaertnerplatz), Publio in Mozart’s Il sogno di Scipione (Gotham Chamber Opera in New York).  In concert, he debuted in the renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, sang as a soloist with Munich Symphony Orchestra at the Gasteig in Munich, sang as a tenor soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Teatro La Verdi in Milan, a tenor soloist in an Opera Gala concert with the Friedrichshafen Symphony Choir, a tenor soloist in another Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Oulu Symphony in Finland, a tenor soloist with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, a tenor soloist with the Marlboro Summer Music Festival, a tenor soloist in an Opera Gala with Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and a debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Digital Concert Hall in Berlin.

He has made several debuts in  the roles of Riccardo/Gustavo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera and Don Carlos in Verdi’s Don Carlos.  He will also reprise of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme, the title role of Faust by Gounod.  In concerts, Mr. Espiritu has recently sung Munich’s Isarphilarmonie Concert Hall with the Munich Symphony Orchestra on November 28, 2022.

Arthur Espiritu won the distinguished 2009 George London Award. Furthermore he won the La Scala award at the Belvedere Competition in 2007.  He won top prizes in voice competitions such as The Irene Dalis Competition in San Jose California, Opera Birmingham Voice Competition in Alabama, The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the National Opera Association Competition in New York.
