Alexander Vladigerov

Biography

Alexander Vladigerov (1933-1993) was the son of the great Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov. He graduated from the Bulgarian State Conservatoire (now NAM "Prof. P. Vladigerov") in 1956, where he studied conducting under prof. Vladi Simeonov and piano and composition with his father. He specialized for two years with Natan Rakhlin, chief conductor of the Kiev Philharmonic. From 1958 he worked as conductor of the Pleven, Plovdiv and Ruse Philharmonics, and as conductor of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra (from 1969 until his death). He was a guest conductor in many countries of Europe, Japan and Cuba. He has made numerous performances and recordings of stage and symphony works by P. Vladigerov.

Alexander Vladigerov is the author of three musicals for children, which have gained wide popularity and have been staged many times. He also wrote works for symphony orchestra, chamber works and songs. For his piano works he received prizes at international composition competitions in Warsaw and Moscow (1955), Bolzano (Italy, 1957).
