The opera “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini will be performed on the 9th of August, as part of the “Opera at the Square” festival.
“Such a grand production, once again. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the opera’s premiere and the 85th anniversary of Gena Dimitrova’s birth. This production originated in 1985 and Gena Dimitrova sang in it. Maestro Kartaloff has invited an exceptional ensemble. Our lead singers will also be there”, Svetlana Dimitrova, Sofia Opera dramaturge, said on the “Bulgaria sutrin” show.
The Sofia Opera has toured in Japan in 2000, 2016 and 2018 with this production.
All tickets have long been sold out and the production will mark the season finale after three successful festivals, Dimitrova noted for Bulgaria ON AIR.
The productions are performed on an open stage in order to engage a different audience: this is why there are productions at “St. Alexander Nevsky” and at Pancharevo Lake, the dramaturge noted.
After this event, a break until the 1st of October will follow, with the Sofia Opera promising many more thrilling performances.
The following year, the Sofia Opera Wagner festival will once again take place, Svetlana Dimitrova informed.
