Tannhäuser: Between Heaven and Earth

On the 15th of November, at Club “Opera”, the Sofia Opera’s Wagner matinee called “Tannhäuser: Between Heaven and Earth” took place.

During the second meeting with the audience of the new season, conductor Velizar Genchev shared curious facts about the places where the story in the opera takes place: the castle of Wartburg near the town of Eisenach in Thuringia where the troubadour knights’ contests took place as well as the castle of Linderhof in Bavaria where king Ludwig II built a cave in honor of Venus.

After this, maestro Genchev covered every opera act in detail as he captivatingly explained the plotlines and the piece’s philosophy.

Specially prepared video materials illustrated the maestro’s story and showed the most impactful scenes from the premiere performances of Plamen Kartaloff’s production.

The lead singers Eleonora Dzhodzhoska-Mladenova, Ventseslav Anastasov, Martin Iliev and Daniel Ostretsov performed fragments from “Tannhäuser” during the matinee, under the piano accompaniment of Yolanta Smolyanova.

Svetlana Dimitrova was the meeting moderator.
