The Sofia Opera rises on the peaks near Belogradchik

In the August days, the audience will experience the opera stories of "Nabucco" and "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi, "Norma" by Vincenzo Bellini, as well as the ballet tale "One Thousand and One Nights" by Fikret Amirov and the timeless musical "Mamma Mia!" by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.

The opening of the festival "Opera of the Peaks" will take place on 5 August with the famous opera "Nabucco" by Verdi. Conductor will be Dejan Savić, and director is Plamen Kartaloff.

On 6 August, another timeless opera by Giuseppe Verdi will be presented – the incredible "Aida" of the Argentinian director Hugo de Ana.

On 7 August, Vincenzo Bellini's "Norma" will take the stage again under the direction of Hugo de Ana.

On 12, 13 and 14 August, the audience will be transported to "One Thousand and One Nights" with the ballet by Fikret Amirov. Directed and choreographed by the distinguished Azerbaijani ballet dancer Eldar Aliev, the spectacle premiered in May and caused a furore among the spectators.

On 18, 19, 20 and 21 August the iconic musical "Mamma Mia!" will be presented, based on the music of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, in which sound the timeless songs of ABBA. The spectacular direction is by maestro Plamen Kartaloff, whose main merit is not only that he puts the hit musical in Bulgaria for the first time. The director of Sofia Opera creates a different spectacle, not a replica of those in London and Broadway.

On 26 and 27 August, as well as on 1, 2 and 3 September, a total of five concerts will take place within the festival, with the participation of the ensemble "Bulgare" and "Bagatur", the chamber ensemble "Yoan Kukuzel the Angel-voiced", the orchestra "Philip Kutev", the Vratsa Philharmonic, the women's choir "Vanya Moneva", Desi Dobreva, Nevena Tsoneva, as well as famous actors.

The Belogradchik Rocks are a world-renowned natural wonder and are famous for their amazing beauty. On the way to them you pass through the ancient Belogradchik fortress, built in the times of the Roman Empire, a synonym of manhood and the quest for freedom of the Bulgarians from Northwest Bulgaria.

Many guests come to enjoy opera and ballet under the open sky. "For another year the municipal management, which has gained experience in the organization of the festival, will make every effort to make the spectators and guests feel as comfortable as possible and to experience unforgettable moments with the ballet and opera art amidst the fairyland of the Belogradchik Rocks, which are included in the list of the 100 national tourist sites," said the Deputy Mayor of Belogradchik Rosen Mladenov.

"Inspired by the innovation and unconventional ideas of maestro Plamen Kartaloff, the summer festival "Opera of the Peaks – Belogradchik Rocks" has already become a tradition as a national and international cultural event and attracts music lovers from near and far under the open sky in Belogradchik, among the majestic natural scenery," Mladenov added.

"Amidst the amazing beauty of the rock phenomenon, the audience has the opportunity to experience the magical fusion of nature and music, to see and feel the masterpieces of music in a new way, and the combination of the magnetic place and the masterful performances of singers, ballet dancers and the members of the orchestra leave an unforgettable memory. A memory that makes the audience come back and watch opera and ballet under the open sky, to be excited by the wonderful encounters with the music of Verdi, Bellini, Amirov, Andersson, Ulvaeus and the professional performances of the artists of the Sofia Opera and Ballet", said the Deputy Mayor of Belogradchik.
