The Sofia Opera welcomes finalists at an international competition for young talents

"Let's Sing!" is an international project that aims to highlight the problems of conservatory graduates in the field of classical singing in their transition to practice and employment on the labour market, the Sofia Opera reports. They say the initiative aims to address the common needs of music conservatoires, theatres and the graduates themselves – the singers.

"The results that will be created within the project will help schools and theatres to better identify, develop and retain talent through an unsuccessful transition to practice. We also believe that we can contribute to the growth of the sector by offering a better-quality distance learning service", say the organizers.

Different areas of activity will be created, which will take place over a period of 24 months in three European countries – the Czech Republic, Italy and Bulgaria. The project consists of 4 workshops, 4 project outputs, an international competition for young singers, 4 multiplier events and 8 transnational project meetings.

"Every day, thousands of opera singers around the world go to bed and get up with the idea of how to start or restart their operatic careers. Can we find a way to help them do that? I believe we can," says Luděk Golat, chief project coordinator from the Silesian Theatre in Opava, Czech Republic.

The competition is open to singers of all voice types, aged between 18 and 30. The president of the jury will be Ambra Sorrentino. The pre-selection jury will listen to each entry submitted and select the top 40 candidates to participate in the semi-finals of the competition. The selected participants will be announced on the official website and social media no later than 15 September 2022.

The final round is in October in Sofia. Each of the top 20 candidates will perform 1 opera aria during a live gala concert at the Sofia Opera and Ballet on 29 October 2022. Before this final performance, all 20 candidates will go through 10 online lessons during which the world's best opera teachers will prepare and instruct the candidates for the grand finale.
