Don't miss the rich programme of spectacles for children. On 24 and 25 November, the exciting story of love and duty, reimagined by Verdi in the opera "La Traviata" returns to the stage.

In the Sofia Opera's programme on 10 and 11 November expect the performances "Carmen Suite" and "Bolero" to music by Bizet-Schedrin and Maurice Ravel. In both ballets, the soloists and ensemble of the ballet company sculpt the characters with masterful artistry and brilliant dance technique.

On 12 November, the delights continue for lovers of the art of ballet, who will have the opportunity to watch the story of "Zorba the Greek" again! The ballet, inspired by the great novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, is set to music by Mikis Theodorakis with choreography, direction and libretto by Lorca Massine.

Expect the premiere of the opera "Madama Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini on 17 November at the Sofia Opera. This creative season marks the 165th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini's birth and the 100th anniversary of his death. The Sofia Opera joins the world's greatest theatres to celebrate these two anniversaries.

In the repertoire of the Sofia Opera all Puccini's operas have been performed except the early "Le Villi", "Edgar" and "La rondine". A lover of technology, fast cars and motor boats, close friends with Thomas Edison and an avid hunter, Giacomo Puccini was one of the great masters of Italian opera. He is a strong representative of Verismo. He created extraordinary stage characters and exciting musical canvases. His operas have been filmed, some of them performed in real time at the actual locations of the action's development, and the composer's life has been recreated in several films.

2024 also marks the 100th anniversary of the first performance of "Madama Butterfly" at the Sofia Opera.

The opera programme continues on 18 November with "Ariadne auf Naxos" by Richard Strauss. A fascinating story of a woman waiting for the messenger of death, but instead she discovers the power of love in the face of Bacchus, the god of wine and love.

19 November is dedicated to Georges Bizet's masterpiece – the opera "Carmen", for which the composer was called "Master of Musical Drama". The performance directed by Plamen Kartaloff was created especially for the Sofia Opera's tour to Japan in 2018. Maestro Kartaloff's choice to seek his motivation for the plot as a reflection of ancient drama puts this "Carmen" beyond time. The production captivates audiences not only with the unusual vision of the familiar plot, but also with the magic of unravelling the threads of fate frame by frame, as can happen in major film productions.

On 24 and 25 November, the moving story of love and duty reimagined by Verdi in the opera "La Traviata" returns to the stage.

In the last days of autumn on 28 November we will be able to enjoy the chamber concert "Autumn Impressions" with the participation of Silvana Pravcheva, Daniel Damyanov, Daniela Rizova, Yuri Rizov and Agnes Dankova.

This year the Sofia Opera and Ballet will present "The Nutcracker" by P.I. Tchaikovsky on 29 and 30 November to bring some Christmas cheer to the days before the beginning of December.

Do not miss the rich program of spectacles for children – "The Grumpy Goat", "The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids", "The Three Fairies and Sleeping Beauty", "Das Rheingold", "Little Red Riding Hood" and others.

The Opera awaits you!
