In just a few days, the new edition of the Wagner festival will open with the premiere of “Tannhäuser”. Director of “Tannhäuser”: Plamen Kartaloff; conductor: Konstantin Trinks; scenography: Sven Jonke; costumes: Hristiyana Mihaleva-Zorbalieva; artistic lighting: Andrew Haidinyak; music preparation by conductor Velizar Genchev; plastics: Maria Ilieva; assistant-director: Yuliya Krasteva. The premiere performances will take place on the 26th of June and on the 5th of July.
“The score of “Tannhäuser” is the score of the free man, unburdened by prejudice and the limitations of rationality. Our performance is set in this anniversary year for the Christian Catholic world and is a cleansing of sort, a spiritual salvation and forgiveness”, Plamen Kartaloff shares.

Martin Iliev: Tannhäuser; Petar Buchkov: Hermann, landgrave of Thuringia; Tsvetana Bandalovska (26.06) and Eleonora Dzhodzhoska-Mladenova (05.07): Elizabeth; Gabriela Georgieva (26.06) and Radostina Nikolaeva (05.07): Venus; Atanas Mladenov (26.06) and Ventseslav Anastasov (05.07): Wolfram von Eschenbach; also starring: Emil Pavlov, Angel Antonov, Stefan Vladimirov, Mihail Motaylenko, Angel Hristov and Maria Pavlova.
The “Der Ring des Nibelungen” tetralogy is a strong accent in this festival as well as the Sofia Opera’s signature piece which will be performed according to Plamen Kartaloff’s second director’s vision. Conductor: Evan-Alexis Christ. You can see the four operas on the 28th of June: “Das Rheingold”; 29th of June: “Die Walküre”; 1st of July: “Siegfried and on the 3rd of July: “Götterdämmerung”.
Starring many of your favorite artists among which Martin Iliev, Tsvetana Bandalovska, Radostina Nikolaeva, Kostadin Andreev, Gergana Rusekova, Petar Buchkov, Atanas Mladenov, Daniel Ostretsov and many others.
Guest starring: Thomas Hall as Wotan in “Das Rheingold” and “Die Walküre”; Niina Keitel as Frika in “Das Rheingold” and “Die Walküre”; Plamen Dimitrov as Alberich in “Das Rheingold”, “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung”; Bjartni Thor Christinson as Hunding in “Die Walküre”; Christian Cher as the Wanderer in “Siegfried”; Magnus Vigilius as Siegfried in “Siegfried”; Yordanka Derilova as Brunhilde in “Götterdämmerung”.
