“Pride and Prejudice”: a ballet with choreography and directorship by Leo Muic based on Jane Austen’s world-famous novel of the same name left thousands of viewers in awe who had filled the Sofia Opera and Ballet hall. There was long applause for performers Marta Petkova, Frederico Pinto, Katerina Petrova, Tsetso Ivanov, Nikola Hadzhitanev, Boryana Petrova, Polina Ivanova, Maria Yordanova, Simeon Atanasov, Emil Yordanov as well as for the Sofia Opera corps de ballet.
The four premiere performances were a true triumph. On the year of the 250th anniversary of the famous British writer’s birth, the audience’s interest was great and tickets for the four performances sold out long before the performance dates.
“To me, it’s always very interesting how a classic continues to live on for so long and how a director and choreographer can make it come to life on stage. It’s very important that the performance is dynamic and that scenes seamlessly flow into each other. There is a certain type of things where theater will live on and survive while managing to look like a film, just like movies will continue to exist while they resemble theater”, Leo Muic shared.
Scenography: Stefano Katunar; costumes: Manuela Paladin Sabanovic; artistic lighting: Alexander Chavlek; vocal scenes: Svebor Zguric; dramaturge and assistant choreographer: Balint Rauscher.
As in Leo Muic’s other productions, the score was chosen with exceptional precision: it contains pieces by only British composers such as Sir Edward Elgar, Sir Hubert Paris, Ralph von Williams, Georg Friedrich Handel, Henry Purcell and Peter Warlock.
More performances are being planned for the new season.
