The Sofia Opera holiday repertoire

The Sofia Opera and Ballet to celebrate New Year’s Eve with lavish gala concerts

Famous arias and duets, ballet fragments, popular songs and many surprises will bring joy to the viewers of the three completely sold-out concert evenings on the 29th, 30th and 31st of December.

Starring: Sofia Opera lead singers, orchestra, choir and ballet. Conductors: Alexandra Lyubchanski, Boris Spasov, Velizar Genchev and Igor Bogdanov; choir conductor: Violeta Dimitrova.

After the series of traditional “The Nutcracker” performances by Tchaikovsky, our audience will see the following artists perform: Violeta Radomirska, Gabriela Georgieva, Gergana Rusekova, Eleonora Dzhodzhoska-Mladenova, Maria Pavlova, Mila Mihova, Radostina Nikolaeva, Silvia Teneva, Stanislava Momekova, Atanas Mladenov, Biser Georgiev, Ventseslav Anastasov as well as guest stars Ramona Tulumani and Reinaldo Droz; prima ballerinas Marta Petkova, Katerina Petrova, Boryana Petrova, premiere soloists Nikola Hadzhitanev and Tsetso Ivanov as well as lead singers Vyara Ivancheva, Kristina Chochanova, Anastasia Popova, Charlotte Berard, Vera Aspridi, Georgi Banchev, Thomas Ferreira, Bogomil Menkidze and Kristian Manev who will perform some of the most famous ballet scenes.

During the first month of the new year, our viewers will be tempted by opera and ballet productions as well as by performances for our youngest audience and a musical.

On the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th of January, the wonderful comedy “Falstaff” by Verdi will start off the new year with a star-studded ensemble led by conductor Nikola Pashkovski: Kiril Manolov / Lucho Galo, Vesela Yaneva / Mariana Pencheva, Gabriela Georgieva / Mila Mihova, Alexandrina Stoyanova-Andreeva / Maria Radoeva, Stanislava Momekova, Silvia Teneva / Maria Pavlova, Emil Pavlov / Reinaldo Droz, Atanas Mladenov / Ventseslav Anastasov.

Starring in the opera “Turandot” by Puccini on the 28th of January: Tsvetelina Vasileva, Adrian Dumitru, Stanislava Momekova and Svetozar Rangelov, Atanas Mladenov, Angel Antonov and Daniel Ostretsov. Conductor: Grigor Palikarov.

All opera performances take place with the participation of the Sofia Opera orchestra and choir; choir conductor: Violeta Dimitrova.

Starring in the ballet “Giselle” on the 23rd of January: Katerina Petrova, Maria Yordanova, Emil Yordanov and Rumen Bonev, with conductor Igor Bogdanov.

Two performances of “Don Quixote” by Minkus will take place, conducted by Andrei Galanov. Starring on the 24th of January: Boryana Petrova, Frederico Pinto, Tsetso Ivanov and Vera Aspridi. Starring on the 25th of January: Marta Petkova, Nikola Hadzhitanev, Tsetso Ivanov and Pamela Pandova-Boneva. With the participation of Sofia Opera lead dancers and its corps de ballet.

For our youngest audience: adaptations of the opera “The Magic Flute” and the ballet “Cinderella” as well as the children’s operas “The Three Little Piggies” and “The Ugly Duckling”. Performances of the musical “Matilda” will take place on the 30th and 31st of January. Conductor: Svetoslav Lazarov. Starring: Vesela Delcheva, Marta Vateva and Nikol Veselinova, Nikolay Petrov, Atanas Yonkov and others.
