The opera “Tannhäuser” to open the Wagner festival on the 26th of June

The opera “Tannhäuser” by Richard Wagner is set to premiere on the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage on the opening day of the summer Wagner festival.

“This is the first Wagner opera I will be a part of and I’m happy to be given this opportunity. This opera isn’t as hard as everyone thinks. The score, the libretto, everything about it is wonderful and compliments each other. It all sounds very Italian”, opera artist Eleonora Mladenova commented for “Bulgaria sutrin”.

She shared she will be portraying the role of Elizabeth: the nephew of Landgraf. She is in love with Tannhäuser.

“Tannhäuser is a knight and troubadour who has left a conservative society and then returns to it. Quite the big scandal ensues. Elizabeth’s heart beats for him, she is in love”, Mladenova said.

Atanas Mladenov plays the role of Wolfram: he is also a knight, a poet and a troubadour.

“He is secretly in love with Elizabeth but he doesn’t play a classic role in this love triangle. Wolfram is a romantic who only secretly gazes at Elizabeth and tries to achieve his dreams through defending the ideals he believes in. However, he doesn’t have the courage to take a stand and tell Elizabeth: “I want you!””, Mladenov revealed for Bulgaria ON AIR.

Rehearsals have been going on for about a month now.

“We’re still in a more technical process of rehearsals but we will soon be ready for the big stage. The premiere is on the 26th of June, with another performance planned for the 5th of July”, Mladenov informed.

“Tannhäuser” is the most performed Wagner opera.

“Every opera fan should come, see and hear what we have accomplished”, Mladenova stated.
