Plamen Kartaloff’s production hadn’t been performed a second time since its premiere in 2024.
In order to relive the magic of Richard Wagner’s great score, groups of foreign viewers as well as Bulgarian fans of the German maestro had arrived and often asked when they would be able to see the opera again.
Special guest was Karen Stone: CEO of “Opera Europa”, the worldwide organization which has 250 members from 44 countries.
The young Belgian conductor Marteyn Dendivel made his Sofia Opera debut with this performance. Choir conductor: Violeta Dimitrova.
The audience expressed its awe of the production and the entire team involved with long, generous applause. Besides the lead singers, choir and corps de ballet, the Sofia Opera orchestra also left the audience in awe and was invited on stage.
Starring: the world-famous New Zealand tenor Simon O’Neill as Lohengrin, Alma-Lisa Bandalovska as Elsa, Biser Georgiev as King Heinrich, Gabriela Georgieva as Ortrud, Ventseslav Anastasov as Friedrich, Atanas Mladenov as the King’s Messenger, Nikolay Petrov, Nikolay Voinov, Emil Pavlov, Rossen Nenchev as the Brabant knights, Gergana Petrova, Lyubov Metodieva, Tsvetelina Kotseva and Yuliana Katinova-Petrova as the pages and Kalin Dushkov as Gottfried.
With the participation of the BNR mixed choir men’s ensemble with conductor Lubomira Alexandrova.
