We will hear the famous bass Nikolay Petrov in the role of Don Pasquale himself: he performed this role during the opera’s premiere in 2019, the Sofia Opera and Ballet press center shared.

Alexandro Georgiev will portray the Notary.

Director: Svetozar Donev.
Conductor: Zhorzh Dimitrov.
Scenography and costumes: Nela Stoyanova.
Choir conductor: Violeta Dimitrova.

Donizetti’s exquisite score and story dwell on a well-known and timeless subject in a genius way: love and the perils it goes through, especially when fortunes and heirs are involved.

The opera “Don Pasquale” premiered on the 4th of January, 1843, in Paris and has enjoyed a huge audience interest since then.

The opera’s first production in Bulgaria was presented in 1932 at the Sofia Opera.

“Don Pasquale” is defined by music critics as one of Donizetti’s most valuable opera comedies. A piece whose score the composer created in just eight days and through which he made the audience relate to the emotions swirling in the old bachelor Don Pasquale’s soul: he wants to make his own life better by marrying a young woman but will she meet his expectations?

“No other Italian theater opera has enjoyed greater success. Four or five scenes were repeated, encores for both the singers and the Maestro: to put it shortly, the opera got that type of ovations which are reserved only for the truly great artists in Paris”, a similar review was published in the Paris press immediately after the opera’s premiere in 1843.

Opera fans will experience a true music holiday, captivated by the creative dramaturgy’s dynamics and the inspired interpretations of our favorite Sofia Opera artists and musicians.
