Greek media on the Sofia Opera and Ballet’s tour in Crete!
I don’t know whether yesterday and the day before were the most beautiful evenings at the Iraklion Cultural and conference center but those who were present and saw the Sofia Opera’s performance of “Zorba the Greek” by Mikis Theodorakis will remember it for years to come as an incredible spectacle which will be deeply etched into their memory!
Whether we talk about choreography or the artists’ professionalism and their absolute harmony along with their agile movements and, of course, our great composer Mikis’ timeless and universal score, the Sofia Opera offered a unique spectacle and it’s a pity if you missed it. If not the best event from this year’s program, it was for sure one of the most enchanting and captivating performances from the last event for this year!
Lorca Massine, the opera legend and eighty-one years old choreographer, was present. He is the man who inspired and brought this piece to life. As he said, his top priority after he set foot in Iraklion for the first time the previous day, was to fulfill his childhood dream and visit Kazantzakis’ grave. He also showed that time hasn’t robbed him of his dancing skills as he graciously and beautifully performed the legendary sirtaki dance during the evening’s close, with the audience having applauded the artists for more than twenty minutes!
