A ballet weekend on the open stage of the Belogradchik Rocks with "One Thousand and One Nights"

A ballet weekend on the open stage of the Belogradchik Rocks with "One Thousand and One Nights" from 12 to 14 August including awaits the fans of classical dance who want to combine the enjoyment of the beauty of nature with that of art. Sofia Opera and Ballet's first ballet premiere for the 2021-2022 season, "One Thousand and One Nights", was enthusiastically welcomed by the audience and now an adapted version of the ballet is to be presented for the open stage. Amidst the majestic beauty of the Belogradchik Rocks, this unconventional ballet spectacle, which in every detail carries the breath of the Orient, will fill the audience with beautiful emotions.

The ballet "One Thousand and One Nights" by the Azerbaijani composer Fikret Amirov tells the story of the harsh Sultan Shahriar and the beautiful and wise Scheherazade. Night after night, the sweet-tempered Scheherazade tells Shahriar stories that show basic feminine qualities such as beauty, wisdom and kindness and gradually melt the Sultan's icy heart. The specificity and intricacy of the choreography, the complexity of the music, which is dominated by a percussion instrumentarium, are a challenge for any artist.

Choreographer of the ballet is Eldar Aliev, who five years ago staged the ballet "Le Corsaire" for the ballet troupe of Sofia Opera, and three years later he was invited to stage "One Thousand and One Nights", the premiere of which was scheduled for March 2020. With some delay, at the end of May 2022, "One Thousand and One Nights" triumphed on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. "A neoclassic with folkloric elements, extremely difficult in technical terms" – this is how Eldar Aliev himself characterizes his choreographic work.

On the open stage of the Belogradchik Rocks for the seventh consecutive year art and nature meet and evoke wonderful emotions in the audience.

On 12, 13 and 14 August at 20 h in the ballet "One Thousand and One Nights" the audience will see in the role of Scheherazade Boryana Petrova, Nurida – Sofia Abenanty and Venera Hristova, Shahriar – Nikola Hadjitanev, Slave – Emil Yordanov.
