The newest premiere on the stage of the Sofia Opera "Ariadne auf Naxos" will be staged by the end of April under the direction of Vera Nemirova. The first premiere dates are 29 and 30 April at 19 h.
The spectacle is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of one of the greatest opera primates in the world – the Bulgarian Anna Tomowa-Sintow, who throughout the summer of last year prepared the singers for the upcoming premiere.
The conductor of the production Evan-Alexis Christ shared that this project started two and a half years ago.
The director of "Ariadne auf Naxos" Vera Nemirova explained that the opera "Ariadne auf Naxos" brings together two worlds – the world of the so-called "serious opera", "opera series", the work of a young composer, who wrote his first work on the myth of Ariadne of Naxos, and her encounter not with the god of death, but with the one, who bestows love and life, Bacchus. On the other hand, there are the comedians from the comedy del arte, in which street theatre comes to life.
He comes with the means of improvisation and gets involved in the tragedy, brings it to life and becomes a comedy, based on the libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The first performance of "Ariadne auf Naxos" was on 25 October 1912 in Stuttgart, and in Bulgaria it was staged on 30 June 1975 in Varna. After the premiere at the end of April on the Sofia stage, the audience can watch the opera on 14 and 15 May.
Nemirova shared that she has a personal story related to the spectacle.
