BTA – FRANCESCO ROSA WILL CONDUCT "LAKMÉ" AT THE SOFIA OPERA

The Italian maestro Francesco Rosa will conduct the opera “Lakmé” by Léo Delibes at the Sofia Opera and Ballet on 24 and 25 March, informs us the theatre.

At the first performance in the part of Lakmé will be Petya Ivanova, and at the second one – Diana Vasileva. Georgi Sultanov will go out as Gerald on 24 March.

Among the soloists are Biser Georgiev, Diana Genova, Miroslav Andreev, Atanas Mladenov, Elena Stoyanova, Silvana Pravcheva, Rumyana Petrova, Slavi Manov.

The opera is about the impossible love between the young priestess Lakmé, daughter of the High Priest of Brahma, and the English officer Gerald, in a moment when the Hindus revolt against the British domination in India – a story about love, duty and unfulfilled happiness. 

The premiere of “Lakmé”, Léo Delibes’ masterpiece, was at Grande Opéra in Paris on 11 April 1883, about one century after the time of the action of this famous opera – colonial India, around 1775. Delibes was on the top of his fame, regular professor in composition at the Conservatory, a year later he was chosen for a member of the French Academy.

“Lakmé” held the world stages still since the year of its composition. The connoisseurs and the lovers of this art appreciate in it the distinguished music colouring, the romantic line of the work and not at last place – the dramatic tension of its plot. This opera is considered for a top in the original style, which Delibes achieved during the years of his career, which started with the composition of operettas and ballet music, highly appreciated by Tchaikovsky himself.
