The young singers Gloria Kaneva and Rosen Nenchev will make their debut in “Eugene Onegin” on Sofia stage

The citizen of Ruse Gloria Kaneva, at the age of 22, will make her debut in the role of Olga, Tatyana’s sister, in Vera Petrova’s production of “Eugene Onegin”, which will be performed on 17 June. Debut as Lensky will make also the tenor Rosen Nenchev.

Akad. Plamen Kartaloff shared about the new direction of the famous opera: “Eugene Onegin” by P.I. Tchaikovsky on the stage of the Sofia Opera is a real academy for discovering and professional growth of young opera artists. The task of the new production is to discover and attract youngest artists, even debutants, and together with them – the professional appearance of young director and conductor, who are making their debut in the staging of this work on the national opera stage too.

It’s not an easy work such an ambition, not only to discover new voices for the parts, but they to be also well prepared and capable to cope with the difficult vocal and stage characters in the complex dramaturgy of a such sensitive music artist like Tchaikovsky”.

Gloria sings since she was a child in the famous Ruse choir “Dunavski valni”. At the moment, she is fourth-year student at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music, in the class of Prof. Ilka Popova and Assoc, Prof. Nikolay Motsov. She has won many awards at national and international competitions. “For me the role of Olga is a challenge – shares Gloria. She is Tatyana’s full contrast. Olga loves life, she believes in love, but she marries immediately after Lensky’s death. In the development of this character helped me the many hours in acting mastery with Plamen Kartaloff and with Vera Petrova, who is also director of the spectacle. I would like very much the spectators to see me and appreciate me in this role, because for me it’s superb”.

Rosen Nenchev sings since he was a child too. He graduated from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music and continued his education in Milan, at the Marziali Academy. He debuted in “La traviata” on Vecchia Square, at the Bergamo Summer Festival and is a soloist of Teatro San Babila in Milan. There he sang in “Nabucco”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, “Madama Butterfly” and others.

During his stay in Italy (2008-2013) he became champion of Lombardia in the typically Italian sport – beach tennis. His greatest achievements are: 7th place at the Team World Championship in Moscow – 2013 and 5th place at the European Championship in Brighton, England.

Rosen Nenchev will take place also in Plamen Kartaloff’s production of “Nabucco” on the square in front of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. He is also a student of the Maestro in acting mastery.

Conductor of “Eugene Onegin” on 17.06 will be Zhorzh Dimitrov.
