Concert of the master class of R. Kabaivanska at the Plovdiv Roman Theatre – 29.09, 19.00 h.


On 29 September at the Plovdiv Roman Theatre will take place a special concert entitled “The Devine” – Raina Kabaivanska and her master class at the New Bulgarian University. The event which marks the 80th Anniversary of the great opera Diva, together with the event “100 Bulgarian voices are singing for Boris Christoff”, dedicated to the One Century Anniversary of the great Boris Christoff, is among the exceptional, marking accents in the program of the V International Festival “Balabanov’s House Music Days”.

The concert of the master class of Raina Kabaivanska with her special participation and with the orchestra of Sofia Opera and Ballet under the baton of Nayden Todorov contains one more important symbolic – Raina Kabaivanska has not been guest in Plovdiv for more than 15 years, but at her last guest-performance she sang namely on the stage of the Roman Theatre.

The team of the International Festival “Balabanov’s House Music Days” has undertaken the ambitious task to present again to the Plovdiv audience one of the greatest performers of modern times – Raina Kabaivanska. Knight of the Order of Italy, chosen five times for most popular person in Italy and twice for musician of the year, awarded with “Career Oscar” at the International Opera Oscar Awards. With this event Plovdiv will celebrate with dignity the jubilee of the unique Bulgarian performer.

Well-known is the fact that together with her brilliant biography of opera Diva, Kabaivanska has a huge contribution in the development of young talented singers, some of whom have already taken their way on the big international stages.

The first master classes of the singer were held in 1992 near Torino. Since that time she was constantly extending the trajectory of her school in vocal and scenic art in the world. Kabaivanska is a professor at the Chigiana Academy in Siena, the Academy in Osimo, Teatro Real Madrid, the New Bulgarian University, Torre del Lago, the Academy for young talents in Arena di Verona. In 2004, together with Luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni and the conductor Leone Magiera, Kabaivanska opened a Music Academy in Modena. She is a member of the jury at a series of prestigious competitions – Maria Callas, Queen Elizabeth and others.

In 2002, Raina Kabaivanska founded a fund with her name at the New Bulgarian University, which awards national and international scholarships for education of young opera performers.
